In December 2000 in the full swing of the panini, I came up with an idea for a children's book, title and all, There's a Robot in my Closet. I wrote it within a week and it sat on the shelf for four years. Then I became the inaugural visiting scientist at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. After being asked several times whether I had children's books, I knew it was time. I dusted off that manuscript and got it edited and the rest is history.
The wonderful reception I received for that one book let me know that people were hungry for these types of stories. So with the help of my editor, writing mentor and Indie publisher, Rebellion LIT LLC, the There's A Robot series was born. Since March 2024, I have released one book every month until July. And Whew, I'm tired!
You just don't see lots of media with girls, Black and Brown kids doing STEM by being creative, curious, and innovative. These are qualities of an engineer and also those attributes we want to foster in our young people.
So now it's time to take a break and get back my Black STEM Romance novel, Heart Lessons: Jordyn's Journey. It was due to be published in July 2024 and that is definitely not happening. However, I felt like it was time to get my children's STEM books out into the world so that was the sacrifice I had to make. These children's books are a natural next step in my journey to bring, "My STEM To The Streets." I want kids to see themselves in my books and be inspired to pursue the possibilities of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math)
While waiting on books 6 - 10 to be released later this year, it is the perfect time to get books 1 through 5 for the littles in your life. Consider getting them for your local library, museum, school, family, friend or to help the teachers online and classrooms to #ClearTheList as the school year begins.
#AmazonPrimeDay is July 16 - 17, 2024. Four of my children's ebooks (KINDLE ONLY) will go be reduced to $0.99 at midnight PDT on 7/16/24. They will then increase in a few steps at a time back to the regular price of $13.99 by 11 pm PDT on 7/17/24. That is 48 hours to bless young people with the possibilities of STEM and robotics. Learn more about the books below.
